What are the requirements for my child to wrestle?

Sign up for an active USA Wrestling membership.

Complete the Homewood Wrestling Club registration form.

How do I register my child for the Homewood youth wrestling program?

We encourage you to try a few free classes to see if wrestling is the right fit. The first practice is on October 23, and registration will take place in person. USAWmembership is $41 and includes club insurance coverage.  Youth Season fees are $250 and can be paid by check or through online registration (credit card fees are an extra charge).

What Equipment Do I Need?

For practice, all that’s required are wrestling shoes, athletic shorts, and a t-shirt. If your child is new, we have a limited supply of shoes to try, and they can wrestle in socks until they decide to purchase. Wrestling shoes protect the mats and should not be worn outside to prevent dirt and germs from being tracked in.

For competitions (which are optional), many wrestlers choose to wear a singlet. Headgear and mouthguards are optional as well.

What is the schedule for practices and matches?

Practices are held Monday through Thursday from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. For the latest match and tournament schedules, visit our Events page.

Where does Homewood practice?

Practices are held at two locations:

  • Monday and Wednesday: Homewood High School, 6:00–7:30 PM

  • Tuesday and Thursday: Birmingham Wrestling Complex, 6:00–7:30 PM

How does Homewood handle different experience and ability levels?

We cater to each wrestler’s unique skill level by organizing breakout groups and utilizing a tiered coaching approach. This allows experienced wrestlers to progress while beginners focus on building fundamental techniques. Smaller group settings ensure personalized attention, helping every athlete reach their full potential.

Can girls participate in youth wrestling?

Absolutely! Youth wrestling is open to girls, and it's one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. Alabama now has all-girl divisions in competitions, but girls are still welcome to compete in general brackets with boys as well.
